5 Cycling routes to and from Puerto de Pollensa

Mallorca attracts scores of cyclists all year round, and while thousands take to the roads in late winter and early spring, anytime is good for cycling in Mallorca. The mountainous Tramuntana is excellent for hill climbing and the flat interior and coastal roads provide the mileage for exciting and varied cycling routes from Puerto Pollensa and all over the island.

Here are our 5 favourite cycling routes from Puerto Pollensa, all doable from our hotel and designed to provide everything from extreme and pro-cycle routes to leisurely rides for all levels of cyclists.
1. Puerto Pollensa - Cap de Formentor
Intermediate level - 40 Km - Elevation: 279m - 100m climbing
Stunning scenery and challenging at the start and finish
As cycling routes from Puerto Pollensa go, this is the nearest and most versatile, with steep hill climbing and descents, incredible views and best of all, it can be accomplished in a morning.
Leaving your hotel just outside Puerto Pollensa you head towards Formentor on the main road. First climb up to the Mirador de Sa Creueta, from where you can see the Colomer rock jutting out from the water, a 3.3km climb with 220m of elevation. From here continue on for a further 13 km and you reach Mallorca's northernmost point, the Cape of Formentor and the Formentor lighthouse.
Snacks and cold drinks can be purchased at the Cape Cafe and offer a welcome spot for a quick breather. Once back in Puerto Pollensa, the ride can be extended on to Pollensa old town and if you're feeling brave, onto the Lluc monastery for a much longer cycling route from Puerto Pollensa, more kms and steep climbing.
2. Puerto Pollensa - Lluc Monastery and on...
Intermediate - 53,8 Km - Steep mountain roads
Lluc Monastery is located at the start of the Tramuntana Mountains and is one of our all time favourite cycling routes from Puerto Pollensa. It is also much cooler in the heights and a welcome treat if you are cycling in Mallorca in the hotter summer months.
This cycling route from Puerto Pollensa climbs right up to the Lluc Monastery via Coll de sa Batalla and can descend via Coll de Femenia and Campanet. It is 26,9 km to Lluc from Puerto Pollensa but there is no need to stop there. See number 5 : Cycling routes from Puerto Pollensa below, for the Epic Tramuntana ride.
3. Puerto Pollensa - La Victoria
Intermediate level - 32 km loop - Stunning sea views
This is one of the more beautiful short routes in Puerto Pollensa, worthwhile if only for the scenery and diversity.
It starts at the Duva sports hotel in Puerto Pollensa and follows the bay road down to Alcudia, then on towards Puerto Alcudia.
At this point you head towards Mal Pas and once you reach the sea road you can cycle all the way along the peninsula to La Victoria. The highest point is 444 m, so not a steep course, though you can walk up to the Hermitage on foot for a little climbing.
4. Puerto Pollensa - S'Albufera Wetlands
Beginner level - 30 km - Easy and flat
This is a gentle cycling route from Puerto Pollensa, along the bay road to Alcudia as far as Puerto Alcudia.
The ride takes you around S'Albufera, Alcudia's nature reserve and bird sanctuary, and is a delight for nature lovers and a must see for all birding enthusiasts.
The cycling route around the wetlands is well marked and has plenty of hides, should you wish to do some bird sighting too.
5. Puerto Pollensa - Tramuntana Mountains
Advanced - 168 Km - 2700 m climbing
You can follow the MA-10 from Puerto Pollensa all the way to Andratx in the south of Mallorca, but this route will loop at Banyalbufar and take you back to Pollensa.
The serious climbing begins in Alaró.
This cycling route will take you to the valley of Orient and down to Bunyola. Here you join the coastal route to Deia, down to Soller and then up Mallorca's highest mountain, Puig Mayor.
For the full Tramuntana cycling route: a 232 Km loop with 4500m of climbing, continue on as far as Andratx.
You will be taking on Mallorca's most famous climbs:
Coll de Femenia, Coll de Soller and Puig Major.
There are many more cycling routes from Puerto Pollensa, and loops and variations abound. Once you start you may find you have your favourites but there are always more to be tried.
