Where to find the best almond cake, cafe con leche and pamboli cycling in Mallorca
The Tramuntana Mountain is the reason most cyclists come to Mallorca in the first place. 120 km of hill climbs, mountain villages, views and stops. Yes, cafe stops are the cherry on the cake, and cake is very much needed after a heady day of steep mountain climbing. We may be cycling for the challenge, the feat, the training or the joy, we may do it for the social buzz of an active holiday with likeminded souls. It may be the escape we need from the stresses of every day life, or a reward after a year of working hard.
Whatever the reason, or lack of, Mallorca is a fabulous place for cycling. If you are planning a trip to the island, here is a list of some of our favourite cafe stops along the top cycling routes.
The Epic Tramuntana Cycling Route
Most seasoned cyclists will know the route well already. It barely requires an introduction. But to those new to the island or to cycling, the Tramuntana is a feat that will mark a before and after.
The stretch of mountain range that runs along the southwest to northeast coast of Mallorca is called the Serra de Tramuntana, 1000 km2 of deep pine and oak forest, craggy sheer rock face and sea, and a veritable scalextrix of roads, both walking paths along the GR221, and well tarmacked roads on the MA-10 between Sant Elm/Port Andratx and Port Pollensa/ Cape Formentor. The margins and start and end of this formidable route is not clear set, and open to variations. But that said, it is the longest and most arduous cycling route on the island; a 162 km one way trip, and the reason most hardy cyclists visit Mallorca year after year.
If you are going to do it, you will need on route sustenance, and where better than in a Mountain top Mallorcan cafe.
